Our Story

“Where the river remembers and the ground still speaks”

Debuted in August 2026, Ibom Modesty exists to honor Ibibio/Akwa Ibom Heritage through everything we create – crafts, lifestyle, culture, stories – built with the same care our ancestors gave to the inspiration that birthed them.

The organisation was founded on the conviction that the Ibibio people and the broader Akwa Ibom community possess a rich cultural heritage that is under-documented and under-celebrated.

The name “Ibom Modesty” reflects a commitment to presenting this heritage with dignity, neither exaggerating nor diminished but presented truthfully and respectfully. 

The founding team identified critical gaps: the absence of a comprehensive accessible record of Ibibio oral traditions; the decline of Ibibio language usage, particularly in scientific and formal contexts; the lack of a centralised cultural exhibition space in Akwa Ibom, and the need for rigorous, multi-perspective research that engages with both traditional knowledge and contemporary scholarship.

We believe modesty is not smallness but rootedness. It is knowing exactly where you come from, and carrying it forward with dignity.
